It's interesting how numbers like this got no play, but the media really loves the Birther controversy...huh, wonder why?
But before liberals begin to smirk, here's a poll from 2007, in which 35 percent of Democrats said that President Bush knew in advance about the 9/11 attacks, and 26 percent were not sure.
So if 58 percent of Republicans are living in a delusional fantasy world because they are out of power, then 61 percent of Democrats were doing the same thing until just recently (perhaps they still are). It's a clean, apples-to-apples comparison with a clear lesson: People get a bit kooky when they're out of power, Democrats about 3 points kookier -- which is probably within the margin of error.

ReplyDeleteTo be fair to the Democrats in this case, it was released that there was evidence that was available to both the CIA, NSA, and FBI that if properly combined and compiled could have helped prevent the attacks. This is not saying Bush knew, but it does show that we had information that it was coming, and thus people could make the mistake as they may think that if the agencies knew something, than Bush must have.
ReplyDeleteVersus the Birthers, who are going after this even with evidence that outright contradicts it (Obama's Certificate of Birth from Hawaii-their form of Birth Certificate- should have ended this controversy a long time ago). Plus, when you add in that some are claiming that Obama wasn't even Born but is in fact the Antichrist, of course the media will play it up cause it stimulates ratings to talk about something beyond a scandal over a Document.
I'm really disappointed in you, Charles.
ReplyDeleteMy site has consistently disregarded birthers and given them no legitimacy.
You just gave truthers legitimacy that they don't deserve. The question was did Bush know about 9/11, not "was there info that could have prevented it." It is just as crazy, considering Obama hasn't released his long-form birth certificate, only the short form.
The fact is, Obama is right not to release it. It would just give in to birthers demands. The difference is, the media is trying to make it out that birthers are in the Republican mainstream. But, the National Republican Party NEVER tried to make it seem like truthers were the dem mainstream.
My theme of the day yesterday, unintentionally, was that the Obama administration is trying to make all opposition seem crazy and not engage on policy, with the media absolutely on message for him. And whatever you can say about Bush and claiming the opposition wanted to cut and run, that is at least engaging on policy.
I never said that you supported the Birthers or that the Birthers are the main stream ( i know they are far from it, but they are such a colorful bunch, so how could the media miss such an opportunity?) And I agree that Obama should not have to release more than his short form for the same reason you stated.
ReplyDeleteNow, I never have thought that Bush knew (and unless evidence comes out to the contrary, never will).
But let me explain my statement. Considering that there was evidence that was known to different branches, and that that such knowledge was available made it easy for people who hated Bush to draw the conclusion (however wrong) that he must have known. Even though there is absolutely no evidence that he knew, Bush can't prove with total and complete evidence that it was absolutely, completely impossible for him to have known anything about it as we can never absolutely know what he heard or thought or saw, which allows for the conspiracists to jump on that tiny bit of doubt and use it as the basis of their argument. On the Birther issue, he has a birth certificate and witnesses of his birth, but still there are people who call it into question. I do not consider the Truthers any more legitimate than the Birthers.
And come on... The democrats were labeled the unpatriotic, loony liberals completely out of touch and too high minded to understand average Americans by the Republicans during the Bush years it just got to be repetitive. Both sides always do it as it paints their message as better and discredits their opponents, ever since the Greeks first called those who could not speak their language Barbarians.
