CNN Makes Big Deal Out Of Man LEGALLY Carrying A Weapon

A group of citizens protesting their right to bear arms outside of President Obama's rally, including one man openly caryring a legal assault weapon, made the front page of CNN this morning. Look at this headline:

Man carries assault rifle to Obama protest -- and it's legal

Like it is some sort of unfortunate. surprise. God forbid that carrying a weapon that everyone can see, unloaded, isn't a crime. Additionally, the men were never within close proximity of the President.

In both instances, the men carrying weapons were outside the venues where Obama was speaking.

The Secret Service understood the unimportance of the incident:

Asked whether the individuals carrying weapons jeopardized the safety of the president, Donovan said, "Of course not."

It is unfortunate that, rather than punish the people who commit crimes with guns and keep them out of the hands of felons and mentally disabled, we freak out anytime we see a citizen legally carrying one. The best point is made by the man in question:

"I come from another state where 'open carry' is legal, but no one does it, so the police don't really know about it and they harass people, arrest people falsely," the man, who wasn't identified, said in an interview aired by CNN affiliate KNVX. "I think that people need to get out and do it more so that they get kind of conditioned to it."

Columbine Dad Uses Tragedy For Political Purposes

While the so-called Thune amendment that would have allowed permited people to carry concealed weapons across state lines was of questionable quality, the decision of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence to use Tom Mauser, father to one of the victims of the Columbine Massacre a decade ago, holding up his son's shoes was disgusting politics.
The Columbine shootings did not involve concealed weapons or buying weapons across state lines. This was just an attempt to guilt voters into calling Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennett for having the gall to support the amendment while being Democrats. And it was sick, sympathy politics that denegrates a terrible event in recent history.

Tom Coburn Knows How To Get It Out Of Her!

Tom Coburn, Senator from Oklahoma and hero of hardcore small government conservatives, seems to have a knack at putting Sotomayor on the spot. Watch as he calls her out on a lesser known, but arguably more important, speech she gave where she stated that foreign law should affect American judges' reasoning, and watch how she struggles to wash those comments away.

Then, there is a great (if not that enlightening) exchange concerning gun rights, full with I Love Lucy reference.

Finally, here she is punting on a straight-forward, very specific question concerning abortion, something she has done quite a bit of during these hearings, which, in all honesty, is probably the right strategic move. Also, note Coburn being the Southern Gent that he is.
